Why you should a choose a good domain? Building a website for most of the people is a fun and usually easy considering that there are quite a lot of content management systems that are easy to use and comes with many great features for customization. A harder task is to get visitors to that site.

Research Keywords – Finding the proper keywords for your website is the first and I think the most important step. Once, you have the keyword(s) your site will be optimized for, you should find a domain that contains that.
Many SEO experts say that it is not so important as it used to be, but I believe it helps SEO even after Google Panda and Penguin. So try to find a domain that contains your main keyword, if is not possible go with your secondary keywords.
Using Geographical Keywords – Building sites for a location have been very popular nowadays since we can get better rankings easier (of course it also depends on the niche and the location). If you build a site like this try to find a domain with the location + the keyword. This is easier to remember and helps SEO.
Don’t Use Long Domains – The shorter domain, you can find the better simply because it is easier to remember. Unfortunately, short domains are usually picked by others.
Try Get Domain that is Catchy – It is not easy considering that you should insert your keyword as well, but try it. Don’t use domains that are hard to spell or easy to mistype.
Use the Main TLDs – Obviously, the best domain name is .com if you want to run a “global” website (or for sites that are built for English speaking countries). If you want to build a site for one location use the domain of the country.
Alternatively, if .com is already picked you can use .net or .org. They are also good since people are used to them. If you search for anything within Google 99% of the results have the mentioned top level domains.
Buying Similar Domains or Typos – Since your domain will be the brand of your site and will be used everywhere, I suggest you to get the other TLDs as well, if it is possible. The best if you have .com, .net, .org at the same time. This way you can protect yourself from competitors.
