In my point of views, this is the most important thing, but at the same time it is definitely the hardest task. The higher the price, the more money you will get for a click. There are many sites on the net that collect the best paying keywords.

Unfortunately, the best paying keywords are usually very competitive, so if you set up a site for it or them, it is rather hard to get high rankings in search engines, and as a result you will have less targeted traffic. Therefore, I think it is better to use less competitive keywords since you can have more traffic. If you want to earn serious money with Adsense, I suggest you to invest into  a keyword research tool, as you can find profitable keywords and niches simpler.

Create Optimized and Informative Content

On your site you should offer quality content for the visitors which is a crucial factor for SEO. If your site has informative content, search engines will honor with higher rankings. Plus, the displayed ads will be much more relevant which making also makes click through rate higher.

Position you Adsense Ads Properly

The ads must be integrated into the your site as if they were the real part of it, but of course they must be on a visible place. I think the best is if you follow the suggestions of Google and check the heatmap.
