Why website protection is important? It is an every day event that sites are hacked or infected by viruses, malware and others, so website protection is crucial. I can tell you my example, when my site was infected and banned, because of a malware software. An infection was on my computer collecting the FTP connection data to my website hosting. It sent the FTP data to server which put encoded scripts into my files making it infected.
I didn’t realize the infection just when Google warned me once, then I cleaned the files from the strange codes, then as I didn’t realize my computer was infected 2 days after the cleaning, infection appeared on my website again and with that my site was banned by Google! Because of not caring about website protection I lost many visitors and with that money! Website protection starts with the protection of your own computer.
Everyday, we website builders, concentrate on SEO, link building etc., but we forget one thing: website protection, though malware can ruin our whole work in no time.
Website Protection – How?
I know it was my fault that I didn’t protect my PC enough with a better firewall and anti-virus software. I used Avast and it showed nothing. I thought if it works fine, everything will be OK.
After having this trouble I was searching for many solutions and tips on how to protect websites and if they are infected how can they be repaired.
During this procedure I found three ways for website protection
- Now, I never save my FTP connections on my computer plus I always change them in my hosting panel (Minimum once a week)
- I always check my websites. First it was a bit difficult to find the solution, I downloaded all the files of my website and checked them with anti-virus software. But as I mentioned before they showed nothing! Then I found a great online source where my sites can be checked fast and effectively. This website is www.unmaskparasites.com or sucuri.net I checked my infected website and it showed me not only my website is infected but also the files where the problem is! Now I check my websites with this great tool once or twice a week.
- Plus where it is possible I change the attributes of the files found on the server.
- If you use WordPress it is really important to update not only WP, but the plugins.
These are just some “manual” steps to protect your website, but we can use software to prevent infections.

Why is my website getting hacked and how do I prevent it?
One of my business websites has been “hacked” numerous times even though I have been diligent in keeping all admin credentials secure and used strong passwords. Not only does the hosting company (whose in-house design team developed the site) take no responsibility for its security (even though it resides on tbeir server), but now the site is no longer editable and I am still seeing evidence of attacks.
