After Google Panda and Penguin anchor text distribution is one of the most important search engine optimization factor. Before the mentioned Google updates people built links using the same anchor text that contains only the keyword they want to optimize their site for. They though if I use the same anchor text all the time Google will surely know what my site is about. This technique used to work, but not anymore! It can be even harmful for the ranking of your site. The Google’s latest algorithm will surely see you as a spammer if you follow this method and you will never have good rankings or even your site will be de-indexed.

Just think about it. Is it normal that a site has thousands of backlinks with the same anchor? Of course, not. Your link building must look natural. But how can you do that? The first think you can get used to is to use Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) when you build links.
What are LSI keywords? All kind of words that are closely or widely relevant to your niche. Let’s see an example. You want to optimize your site for stop smoking. Possible LSI keywords for this niche can be lung cancer, unhealthy activities, lung illnesses, how tos to stop smoking, products that can help stop smoking, stop smoking tips, ecigarettes etc. As you can see, these keywords are strongly related to main keyword.
Using LSI keywords is one thing that you can do for better anchor text distribution, but you should also mix them as well and add extra words. You aim must be to create links that looks as if they have made by a normal person who found some information that he thinks is good enough to share. For example, instead of using “stop smoking” in your anchor, use “more info on stop smoking here” or “click here to learn how to stop smoking”. In rare cases you can even build links without having keywords in them, like “click here”, “more info here” etc. You can find some example on social media and book marking sites.
All in all, using LSI keywords, relevant keywords, adding extra words and mixing the keywords can help to do better anchor text distribution and at the same time more natural looking link building. And what about the main keyword? Well, you should use it as well. Some SEO experts say that main keywords should be used 20-30% of the time, personally I follow this tip. But, others say now this must be less. I think, it depends on the niche you choose.
On top of that, if you follow this anchor text distribution tips when you build links you will not only have better rankings for the main keyword, but you can have better chance that you will have more rankings for long tail keywords, secondary keywords as well, and that means more traffic for you.
